What vitamins and minerals actually do

Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients your body needs in small amounts for countless processes — energy production, immune function, bone health and more. Most can't be made in sufficient quantity by the body, so they must come from the diet.

Fat-soluble vs water-soluble

Vitamins are split into fat-soluble (A, D, E, K) and water-soluble (the B vitamins and C). Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the body, while water-soluble ones generally aren't, which affects both food sources and how excess is handled.

More is not better. Some vitamins can build up to harmful levels when taken in excess, particularly fat-soluble ones. Always follow label guidance and consult a professional before high-dose supplementation.

Food first

A varied, colourful diet provides a wide range of micronutrients along with fibre and other compounds that supplements can't fully replicate. Supplements are best used to address specific, identified gaps.
